Conquering Tuckahoe
Tuckahoe, a serene Maryland state park, is just a brief journey beyond the Bay Bridge heading eastward. Here, amidst its tranquility, lies a seemingly untouched woodland campground that extends a silent, welcoming embrace.
Upon our arrival, after verifying our site number at the self sign-in post, we delved deeper into this natural haven. The route was shaded by a verdant canopy, curving gently to the left. Following closely behind us was an R-Pod camper, which, to our relief, found its resting place earlier on in our circuit. Our journey wasn’t without a slight hiccup; we did circle the loop twice. Navigating a narrow turn near the self-service firewood shed and sign-in post presented a mild challenge. However, after a bit of maneuvering, we successfully backed our rig into what would be our retreat for the coming five nights.
Day 1: Leaving Sunday
Our day began with a drive over the Bay Bridge, which was a bit sluggish due to traffic. After reaching our campsite, we busied ourselves with unpacking and unloading our gear. To ensure we'd remain connected during our getaway, we embarked on a little exploration, mainly to test cell reception. Interestingly, our primary concern was for Clifford's phone rather than Dylan's.
On our return, we stopped by the self-service shed to collect some firewood for the evening. Luna, filled with energy, darted around, making the most of the expansive space. We indulged in some fun activities too, throwing a frisbee around and playing a few holes of disc golf.
By the time the evening shades began to draw, around 5 or 6, we found ourselves back at camp. Luna, tuckered out from her escapades, sought comfort by snuggling up with Jessie. Dylan took the lead in setting up a warm, crackling fire, while Jessie prepared some delectable frozen pizzas in the oven. We dined al fresco, seated beside the fire, with the delicious aroma of our meal mingling with the woodsy scent of the campfire.
The night was still young after dinner, so we indulged in some classic camping treats – s'mores. Our sweet indulgence was followed by a refreshing walk to the bathhouse. However, a minor miscommunication led to an amusing mix-up. Dylan and Luna waited expectantly to continue their walk, while Jessie, unbeknownst to them, took a quicker route back to the campsite.
Returning to our camp after the eventful day, the allure of the campfire made us yearn for a cleanse. Jessie initiated a puzzle, marking a calm end to our bustling day. Post a refreshing shower, we puzzled some more but soon decided to call it a night.
